What is a Chausie?
Large, athletic hybrid cat with a wild appearance derived from jungle cat ancestry. Long-legged and muscular with tufted ears.
Chausie history and origins
Created by crossing jungle cats (Felis chaus) with domestic cats. Development began in the 1960s-70s. Name derived from the jungle cat's Latin name. Requires experienced owners.
Chausie appearance and size
Typically 6.8-11.3 kg and 36-46 cm at the shoulder — published as one range rather than separately for males and females.
Chausie temperament and personality
Generally described as affectionate, intelligent, playful, social, active, athletic and loyal.

Nothing hereditary is documented for the Chausie breed, but there is still specific documentation to request from any breeder before paying a deposit. A responsible breeder will have these readily available; deflection is a red flag.
TICA's own breed page states Chausie is an 'overall healthy breed', and no breed-specific hereditary condition was found for it on VGL, OMIA or icatcare.
What to ask for anyway
- Cardiac auscultation (and echocardiogram if indicated), as for any breeding cat
- A general veterinary health check of the parents with no unexplained health complaints in the line
- Routine infectious disease and parasite screening consistent with responsible breeding practice generally
