About

What is a Tibetan Terrier?

Medium-sized, squarely built dog with profuse double coat and snowshoe-like feet, known as the 'Holy Dog of Tibet.' Originally bred as companions, watchdogs, and herders in Tibetan monasteries with expressive eyes and protective long coat.

Tibetan Terrier history and origins

Ancient breed developed over 2,000 years ago by Buddhist monasteries in Tibet as cherished companions, watchdogs, and herders. Known as 'Holy Dogs' and 'luck bringers,' they were never sold but only given as gifts. Introduced to the Western world in the 1920s.

Tibetan Terrier appearance and size

Typically 8-14 kg and 36-43 cm at the shoulder — published as one range rather than separately for males and females.

Health guide

What to ask for in a Tibetan Terrier

No breed-specific health panel has been written up for the Tibetan Terrier on this platform yet. That is a gap in our records, not a clean bill of health — ask the breeder which hereditary conditions their lines are tested for, and ask to see the results for both parents, dated and from a named laboratory.

Puppies

No puppies listed right now

No Tibetan Terrier breeder has a record on this platform yet, so there is nothing to list. That is a gap in our coverage, not a fact about the breed.
