What is a Giant Schnauzer?
Large, powerful, and robust working dog with a dense wiry, weather-resistant coat, distinctive beard and eyebrows, and commanding, imposing presence. Originally bred for driving cattle and guarding in Germany.
Giant Schnauzer history and origins
Developed in Bavaria and Württemberg, Germany as a larger version of the Standard Schnauzer by crossing with larger breeds like the Great Dane. Originally used for driving cattle to market, guarding property, breweries and farms, and later as police and military working dogs.
Giant Schnauzer appearance and size
Males typically weigh 27-39 kg and stand 65-70 cm at the shoulder; females 25-34 kg and 60-65 cm.

Coat
The coat should be wiry, harsh, and dense.
It consists of a dense undercoat and a not too short topcoat, lying close to the body.
The topcoat is rough and sufficiently long to allow the checking of its texture

Hair on the limbs tends to be less harsh.
Coat short on forehead and ears.
Typical characteristics are the not too soft beard on the muzzle and the bushy eyebrows which slightly shade the eyes
