Medium-sized primitive spitz-type pariah dog with erect ears, wedge-shaped head, and bushy tail carried curled over the back, known for natural survival instincts and versatility as herder and guardian
Canaan Dog history and origins
Ancient pariah dog from the land of Canaan that survived for thousands of years in the wild. In the 1930s, Dr. Rudolphina Menzel began redomesticating them for use as guard and service dogs. Recognized by AKC in 1997 and is the national dog of Israel.
Canaan Dog appearance and size
Males typically weigh 20-25 kg and stand 51-61 cm at the shoulder; females 16-20 kg and 48-58 cm.
