Austrian Black and Tan Hound history and origins
Descended from ancient Celtic Hounds (Keltenbracke), developed over centuries in Austria from Celtic Hounds and local hunting breeds. Modern form established in mid-19th century as a versatile and durable scenthound for tracking wounded game, primarily hare and fox, in high-altitude Alpine terrain.
