Progressive retinal atrophy (rdAc / CEP290)can shorten life or cause chronic pain
A recessive CEP290 mutation causes late-onset, progressive blindness: affected cats have normal vision at birth that degenerates from around seven months of age, usually reaching blindness between three and five years old. First characterised in the Abyssinian and Somali, but UC Davis Veterinary Genetics Laboratory's own test page states the variant has also been detected directly in the Havana Brown.
