American Wirehair — questions to ask before paying a deposit

A responsible breeder will have these readily available. Deflection is a red flag.

  1. Progressive retinal atrophy (PRA rdAc, CEP290)can shorten life or cause chronic pain

    The same late-onset inherited blindness found in Abyssinian and related breeds has also been documented, via genetic survey, in American Wirehairs, and UC Davis lists the breed as appropriate for this specific test.
